Take your first step toward a radio career that encompasses traditional radio and also embraces multiple media platforms, including social media. You will receive solid instruction and practical hands-on experience in our modern radio facilities. Develop introductory skills in on-air, news, sports, commercial copywriting and production, feature creation, and programming. Learn how your love of music, communicating, entertaining, and informing can lead to an exciting career in radio. Apply your new knowledge in simulated broadcasts that will be critiqued by professionals. Many of today's prominent broadcasters honed their skills first in this course. Find out if a radio career is in your future!

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Use audio consoles, microphones, computers and other basic sound equipment.
  • Explain on-air programming philosophies and approaches.
  • Appreciate the role of team leader in on-air operations (the program director).
  • Communicate effectively with different demographic groups.
  • Organize, research, and perform a radio program with infrequent operational errors.
  • Apply the basic elements required to present a 'personality' in a multimedia environment.
  • Perform a brief newscast live in a studio setting.
  • Describe the steps involved in performing a script for voice-over.
