Overview
Are you enticed by the idea of starting your own business? Do you enjoy finding unique solutions to problems? Does the idea of single-handedly guiding a business to success interest you? Then you might be an entrepreneur. The second year Entrepreneurship Option for Marketing Management was developed specifically to give people like you the focused, intensive training necessary for success in creating, guiding, and managing businesses. What grads can do
This program gives you a broad base of business knowledge, including specialized training in the development and growth of new products and services.
Some graduates of the program start their own company, while others use the intensive training to improve an existing company, whether it’s one they created or someone else’s. Because entrepreneurs can focus on the wider picture of businesses and have a strong, general foundation, their training can be applied to almost any industry, helping to protect them from shifts within a certain field that industry-specialists can’t avoid.
Graduates will be qualified to start their own company, or find work as coordinators, marketing assistants, or potentially managerial roles at organizations locally and globally.
To learn more about the career opportunities and other options available to grads, see the Graduating and Jobs page.
International study
BCIT offers a number of international study opportunities that helps students gain a global perspective of the economy, culture, government, and everyday life of the country they study in. You could participate in a summer field school or complete an international degree. Learn more about studying abroad.

Direct entry FAQs
- When should I apply?
- When will I be accepted?
- Can I transfer options?
- Can I take courses in advance to reduce my course load?
- When will I get my timetable?
- When can I buy my books?
It is recommended that you apply when you have met all of the entrance requirements. If you are currently registered in a course, please indicate this on the self-assessment form.
Once your application has been assessed and has been approved for direct entry, a seat must become available in the program you have selected. The Admissions department must wait until the current students obtain their final grades in either December or May to determine how many seats will become available for direct entry applicants.
You are requested to specify your program option preference(s). Option selection will be completed after current level 2 full-time student transfer requests are processed. Notification of option selection will take place in late June. If a seat is not available in your preferred option an alternate option may be assigned. Your requested option cannot be guaranteed at time of application.
In order to maintain a competitive application, it is recommended that you take no more than two courses per term ahead of time. A maximum of two courses per level are eligible for credit. Note that this will not reduce your full-time program tuition.
Print your timetable one day prior to class start by logging into my.bcit.ca and going to Student Self-Service. You must be registered in your courses in order to access this feature. If you know the set to which you have been assigned, you can also find your timetable on the School of Business Timetables page.
It is recommended that you wait until the first week of classes before buying textbooks. Your instructors will tell you which books to buy.

Program Details
In BCIT’s 2-year Entrepreneurship diploma program, you’ll first concentrate on developing a solid understanding of core business concepts that apply across fields and industries. This includes integrated marketing and communications for global and local markets, computer skills and internet marketing basics, business communications, technical sales, economics, business math, and accounting practices.
You’ll not only learn from successful entrepreneurs, you’ll build a solid business education foundation that will be applicable in all of your future endeavours.
A closer look at the program
A typical week features
- at least 25 hours in class, and
- many hours spent working on assignments and projects outside of the classroom.
The intense nature of the learning experience will help you develop the time-management and priority-setting skills that successful entrepreneurs need.
Practical instruction
Lectures provide instruction in the principles of business and are delivered by instructors with real-world experience, teaching applied skills you can actually use when you graduate. Then, in lab sessions with 22 other students, you’ll practice and master these skills, working directly with School of Business faculty whose priority is helping you learn by doing. You may be called upon to analyze what a one-person company should do to grow. Or you may be asked to convince other classmates to endorse your plan for a large company.
Teamwork
Teamwork is a core value in the School of Business, as it is in the business world. You’ll work in teams in most of your courses. Team activity will help you get an early start on building the delegation, goal-setting and leadership skills you will need as an entrepreneur. The groups you establish at BCIT are also the start of your business network, providing you a legacy of contacts and support that lasts beyond graduation.
Presentation skills
Presentations are a big part of classroom life. You’ll make formal presentations to industry clients in your practicum and project courses. Your lab sessions will often include more informal presentations in groups or by yourself. Practice at presenting your views will build confidence, help you learn to think on your feet, and develop public speaking skills.
Expand your network
You may also choose to expand your learning window at BCIT by playing a role in one of the many active campus student organizations, such as Enactus BCIT and the BCIT Marketing Association. Entrepreneurship students often play leading roles in these organizations to help build contacts and practice the key skills to succeed in their future entrepreneurial careers.
Program length
Two years, full-time
Grading
In order to be eligible to continue into the second year of the marketing management program a student must have successfully completed all required first year courses or equivalencies.
- At the end of first year, students that have failed MKTG 2202, MKTG 2243, and/or any three or more courses not in Marketing will not be allowed to proceed in the program. If a student wishes to re-enter the program, they must complete the outstanding courses and then re-apply to the program.
- At the end of the first year of the program, students that have failed up to two courses not in Marketing may continue in the program if the failed courses are successfully completed at BCIT before term start. If completing the courses at another institution, students must provide proof of registration for the outstanding course(s) no later than 60 calendar days prior to the term start date.
Students described above will be competing for a limited number of remaining seats available in second year options. Their option applications will only be processed once all first year courses are successfully completed, reducing their chances of receiving their first or second choice.

Testimonials
“In addition to learning from thoughtful business professionals and meeting my future colleagues, I was able to secure a role where I utilize my education every day. The business fundamentals we learned provided me with the tools and insights I needed to hit the ground running right after graduation.”
Michelle Warren
“The Entrepreneurship Program is exceptional. I entered the program intent on starting my own business immediately after graduation. What I left with was an understanding that entrepreneurship is not limited to self-employment, but is the attitude that growing companies are seeking in an employee. Now I have tools for both!”
Kim Alke
Graduate employment outcomes
The BCIT student outcomes report presents summary findings from the annual survey of former students administered by BC Stats one to two years after graduation. These reports combine the last three years of available results for the 2019-2021 BCIT Outcomes Surveys of 2018-2020 graduates and for Degree 2017-2019 graduates. The reports are organized into three-page summaries containing information on graduates’ labour market experiences and opinions regarding their education. Business Consulting Project
A BCIT Business Consulting Project provides second year Entrepreneurship students the opportunity to work over a 16 week period with an organization to conduct extensive market research and prepare a marketing plan or business plan. Students work in a team of 2 or 3 people to identify potential opportunities, conduct research, and recommend effective solutions. Students complete a comprehensive written report and present an oral presentation to the sponsoring organization outlining the student team’s marketing recommendations and solutions.
Business Consulting Projects are different from traditional co-op and internship programs. Students are not assigned to actual positions, but rather fill a consulting role for businesses and organizations. Each project has a BCIT faculty member that serves as an advisor for the student consulting team. Exit surveys from participating companies show that the completed strategic business solutions have a value that far surpassed their expectations.
