Overview

Starting January 2022, BCIT will be discontinuing the Coast Capital Savings Entrepreneurial Program Statement of Completion. If you have started the courses in the Statement of Completion you will be able to use them towards the Associate Certificate in Marketing Management – Entrepreneurship.

The Coast Capital Savings Entrepreneurial Program has been designed with you in mind:

These are practical, applied courses in the key areas of entrepreneurship. The material will relate to you and the realities of tomorrow’s business world.
Your courses will be led by instructors with recent, relevant business, and teaching experience.
There are no prerequisites or mandatory courses. You don’t need any previous business education or experience.
Courses are BCIT accredited and may count as electives in some BCIT certificate or degree programs.

Bring your own device

Most courses and programs in the School of Business + Media are BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Please ensure you bring a laptop to every class. Plug-in outlets will be provided at most stations in classrooms, but not in all classrooms, so please ensure you have at least 2 hours of battery life available at the beginning of each class. Check the following recommended computer requirements prior to the start of class. If a program or course does not require you to provide your own device, that information will be provided by your instructor or indicated in the course outline.

For online classes, it is important you have a stable and consistent internet connection to access course content.

For Required Courses:

VENT 1810 from the Coast Capital Savings Entrepreneurial Program can be used as an equivalency to MKTG 1324 in the Associate Certificate in Marketing Management – Entrepreneurship.

VENT 1821 from the Coast Capital Savings Entrepreneurial Program can be used as an equivalency to MKTG 2324 in the Associate Certificate in Marketing Management – Entrepreneurship.

For Electives:

VENT 1820, VENT1821 and VENT 1822 from the Coast Capital Savings Entrepreneurial Program can be used elective for the Associate Certificate in Marketing Management – Entrepreneurship.

High demand courses fill quickly and may result in students unable to register for a course that semester. Courses may also be cancelled due to low enrolment.

	VENT 1820	Financing For a New or Growing Business The course will introduce learners to the fundamentals of financing a new or growing business in Canada. Topics will include pre-financing considerations, basic financial statements and concepts, bootstrapping, equity financing, debt financing, preparing a financing proposal and striking a financing arrangement. Prerequisite(s): No prerequisites are required for this course. course outline	3.0
	VENT 1821	Growing A Business The course will introduce learners to the fundamentals of growing an existing business in Canada. Topics will include strategic options for growth, estimating revenue and costs associated with growth, special considerations involved in growing a family business and environmental factors influencing growth capabilities and avenues for expanding Canadian companies. 	VENT 1822	Personal Finance Fundamentals An important part of managing your entrepreneurial career or business is the understanding of financial basics. Not just business basics, but the basics of your own financial future. Understanding the various financial products and options can help ensure future financial security. This course gives you a practical guide to understanding the foundations of personal finance. You’ll learn about mortgages, lines of credit, leases, credit scores, TSFA’s, real estate, taxes, etc. and understand the choices and rationale to use them that can make a huge difference in your life or your business. This is a course for someone who has no financial training but wants to know how to build a solid personal financial foundation for the future Prerequisite(s): No prerequisites are required for this course. course outline	3.0

	VENT 1810	Starting Your Own Business This course provides an introduction to entrepreneurship for students wishing to start their own business or who wish to learn about fundamental entrepreneurial skills that will help them with their career. Application of these skills can occur in many environments outside of the startup of a business, including working as an independent contractor, an employee, a manager or team leader, or the management team of a large private or public organization. Employers look for self-starting professionals who can work independently and innovate on the job. This course offers full coverage of the foundation skills for today’s entrepreneur who is starting a business or building a career. The course follows a cycle starting with the new business idea and moving forward to the implementation of the business opportunity. Several key entrepreneurial skills are covered, including: (1) how to identify and define a new business idea; (2) how to evaluate a new business opportunity; (3) financial assessment of a new idea; and (4) how to assess market potential of a new idea. Other topics include how to set up a business (incorporation, proprietorship, partnership), business insurance, business taxes, working with partners and an introduction to financing sources. 	VENT 1824	Apprentice to CEO- Entrepreneurial Skills for the Trades Whether you’re an apprentice looking to the future, a journeyman who is looking to start their own business, or a trades person looking to become more valuable to their employer, Entrepreneurial skills for the trades will provide skills and insights to help build and maintain a successful trades business. What sets this apart from most "start your own business" courses is it’s strong emphasis on how to set up an operating system for your trades business. Topics such as invoicing, job tracking, estimating, finances, and safety programs will be a large component of the course, always keeping the focus on a trades business. Other topics include, how to set up a business (incorporation, proprietorship, partnership), business insurance, business taxes, introduction to financing sources, and an introduction to marketing your trades business.
