Developed by industry professionals to give you the useable training BCIT is known for, this Advanced HR Management Certificate offers you a more diverse mix of courses. You’ll focus on in-depth HR topics while also broadening your understanding of business in general. Not only does this program focus on developing you as a leader in human resources, but it also prepares you for accelerated schooling with many graduates earning their diploma in only about a year.

If you’ve already earned your Human Resource Management Certificate, this program is tailored for you. Additionally, some of our students take courses in this program to maintain CHRP status or are sponsored by their employers to develop even stronger skills for on the job.

With the practical learning you’ll participate in at BCIT, you’ll prepare for a successful career in human resources. The Advanced HR Management Certificate in particular gives you more opportunities for diversity in roles, including positions like HR Manager or Freelance HR Consultant.

About Part-time Studies
Take a single course, or work towards a credential — all at a pace that’s right for you.
Part-time courses are offered in a variety of scheduling formats, including at night or on weekends, flexible day time delivery, or you can opt for distance or online learning. If you meet the prerequisites and there’s space available, you can register for a course immediately. Courses are offered in each of three terms: Fall (September), Winter (January) and Spring/Summer (April).
To apply to a Part-time Studies program and earn your credential, you simply need to complete a Part-time Program Declaration Request. Applications are processed throughout the year.
To be successful in BCIT’s fast paced applied learning environment, it is strongly recommended that students have English proficiency in all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Two years of education in English in an English-speaking country and English 12 are strongly recommended for success. For information on English equivalencies, testing and upgrading options, visit:

The following must be completed prior to completion of the Certificate in Advanced Human Resource Management:- Post-secondary: a BCIT Certificate in Human Resource Management
Recommended for success
It is recommended that prior to starting this program students have completed the following:
- English: one of the following:
- English 12 (C+) or
- English-language proficiency
- Math: one of the following:
- Mathematics Self-Diagnostic Test [PDF]
Use this voluntary test to assess your fundamental math skills. You should be able to do this exercise in about an hour. If you score less than 20 out of 26, you should seriously consider upgrading your mathematical skills. If you find this test difficult, we recommend taking OPMT 0199 - Math for Business. - Work experience: previous experience in a marketing-related position will be advantageous, but is not required.
International applicants
This program is available to international applicants who currently have a valid status in Canada. A valid study permit is required prior to starting the program.
Program declaration
Declaring your Flexible Learning (Part-time Studies) program ensures that BCIT is aware of your intent to complete a program as it is currently outlined and provides you the opportunity to apply for transfer credit.
To submit your declaration:
- Answer all questions completely.
- If required, convert transcripts and documents to PDF files.
- Have a credit card ready to pay the application fee.
Declare Now
Upon approval, a program plan letter will be sent to you confirming your program of study. Please allow approximately eight weeks for processing.

Bring your own device
Most courses and programs in the School of Business + Media are BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Please ensure you bring a laptop to every class. Plug-in outlets will be provided at most stations in classrooms, but not in all classrooms, so please ensure you have at least 2 hours of battery life available at the beginning of each class. Check the following recommended computer requirements prior to the start of class. If a program or course does not require you to provide your own device, that information will be provided by your instructor or indicated in the course outline.
For online classes, it is important you have a stable and consistent internet connection to access course content.

Program Details
Your career, like the business world, never stops growing. And by continuing your studies in this Advanced Human Resource Management Certificate, you’ll expand your HR techniques, and knowledge of business and organizational operations across all industries.
The Human Resource Management Certificate is a prerequisite for this program. If you have taken one or more of these courses as part of your Management Certificate in HR, your program must be modified prior to acceptance into the Advanced Human Resources Certificate program. For more information, contact Program Advising at 604-434-1610. The Certificate will be granted upon completion of an approved program of study consisting of a minimum of 43.5 additional credits over and above the Management certificate in Human Resources. These 43.5 credits may not duplicate any previously credited courses.
Program delivery
Blended: This program is delivered partly on campus and partly online.
This part-time studies program is offered on a course-by-course basis, allowing you the flexibility to complete courses in any order, provided that any required course prerequisites have been completed. Students register for each course individually and may undertake studies in any term (Winter, Spring/Summer or Fall). While you may choose the pace of your studies, all program requirements must be completed within seven years as per BCIT Policy 5103 - Student Evaluation [PDF].
Please note that some courses in this program are offered only once or twice per year, and BCIT reserves the right to cancel courses if enrolment is insufficient.
In-classroom delivery is available for most courses in the program. Some courses are also offered online.
The length of most in-classroom courses is 36 hours of classroom time, delivered over twelve sessions (e.g. one three-hour class per week), six sessions (e.g. one six-hour class per week), or five sessions (e.g. one 7.25-hour class per day). Students should schedule an additional one to two hours of independent study time for each hour of in-classroom time to complete readings, assignments and projects and to prepare for exams.
The length of most online courses is twelve weeks. Online learning students should plan to spend an average of seven-to-ten hours per week on their studies for each course.

Additionally, you might choose to broaden your career skills and education by transferring your course credits toward other part-time studies programs within the Business Administration Department such as the Diploma in Business Administration – Human Resources Option, which you could earn in only about a year.

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit it to Student Information and Enrolment Services.
Allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.
All financial obligations to the Institute must be met prior to issuance of any credential.
