Course details
In this second of three capstone graduation courses, and under the supervision of the course instructor, the student must complete the data collection and analysis as specified in the graduation project proposal developed in FSCT8611. The student will apply the chosen research methodology and collect the requisite data needed to answer the research questions of interest. At defined intervals, the student must present his/her progress orally to the class and in writing to the course instructor. The student must complete this phase of the project to a satisfactory level, as determined by the course instructor, program coordinator and subject matte expert (where applicable) before registering for the third and final course, FSCT8631.

This course, which is open to all BTech students in the FS, CIA and DF&C programs, will be exclusively ONLINE. Students must have successfully completed FSCT 8611 (including the full proposal) and must have applied for the full REB clearance to undertake research which may require human intervention. The offering will consist of live recorded sessions, every second Friday. Other scheduled classes may be asynchronous and will be recorded on Bongo site. Attendance will not be mandatory, but there will be pre-recorded materials that will be released each week with various due dates of assignments noted throughout. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Design and implement the data collection and analysis phase of the applied or theoretical graduation research project as proposed in FSCT8611.
- Apply the research methodology and skills learned in FSCT 8611 to address the research questions.
- Articulate, discuss and critically examine research findings in the context of investigative analysis and synthesize the research findings.
- Apply statistical crime research methods and data analysis techniques using SPSS to complete the research project.
- Interpret the findings of the project in preparation for the final write-up and presentation (in FSCT8631).
- Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills through a peer-review process and by being able to critique existing research in the area of specialty.
