Hiring Trades Co-op Students

In industries and trades experiencing an aging workforce and future skills shortages, Co-op is a practical solution for both the student and employer to “test” a working relationship, or simply to fill a short-term employment need.

Students in BCIT’s trades programs have already invested in their education by enrolling in their diploma program. These students come from a variety of backgrounds, some direct from high school and some with previous work experience, and all are eager to work in positions related to their diploma programs to apply their classroom training and meet employers’ needs. Prior to beginning their Co-op work placements, students complete a pre-employment training course covering work expectations, how to succeed in the workplace, and communication with co-workers and supervisors.
