Automotive Mechanics Part-time Studies Course

Course details

This course will introduce the technician to principles of air conditioning systems. Topics include: refrigeration theory, system construction and operation, inspection and service, refrigerant recovery, recycling and charging. Shop exercises provide an opportunity to perform air conditioning performance testing and inspections including refrigerant identification, leak detection, evacuation and refilling of systems. This is an ideal course for automotive technicians wishing to brush up on their air conditioning service skills and body shop technicians who are new to air conditioning service.

  2. This is a blended course consisting of 12 hours virtual class followed by 6 hours practical and written exam on BCIT Burnaby Campus. CSA approved safety glasses and footwear required. Footwear must be steel-toed, leather, ankle covering boots. Required textbook may be purchased at BCIT Burnaby Campus Bookstore.
